About Edible Playgrounds

Edible Playgrounds (EP), transform areas in school grounds into vibrant outdoor spaces that excite and teach children about growing and eating healthy food. By instilling healthy eating habits at an early age, they help tackle obesity, food poverty and lack of access to nature head on, and provide a platform for fun and engaging lessons that support the school curriculum.

Edible Playgrounds is a programme led by Trees for Cities who have been working in schools to plant fruit and nut trees for over 10 years.

Any school with space in their playground should think about having an edible playground. In a year’s time when everything is growing up with strawberries and apples and veggies, it’s going to be fantastic and the children would have been responsible for that. You can see how happy they are already!

This short video shows the Edible Playground we created at Rotherfield Primary School. It gives a good illustration of what’s involved and how much the children get out of it.

If you’d like to visit one of our sites, we’d be happy to arrange a visit. Just email Carys Alder or call 020 7820 4416 and we’ll do the rest.
