Oasis Academy Don Valley opened in September 2015, as a brand new academy on the old Don Valley stadium in the Darnall and Attercliffe area of Sheffield, for students from nursery to year 4. It will grow year on year, with the secondary school scheduled to open by 2020.  By 2022 they anticipate 1170 students from ages 2 to 16 years.

Deep rooted community connections are key to the Senior Leadership of the school, as is the health and wellbeing of the school community. In line with Sheffield City Council’s Corporate Plan, health and wellbeing is one of the academy’s key areas for development and an Edible Playground is the perfect way to work towards achieving a Healthy Schools Status.

The school will focus on embedding use of the Edible Playground into the school curriculum so it becomes an integrated outdoor learning resource across science and all teaching areas. The Edible Playground will be designed specifically for the school and pupils will enjoy planting and harvesting workshops throughout the year, and teachers will receive support to teach outdoors through gardening.
